Changing the World Starts Here

There are so many ways I want to change the world. So many things I want women to know.
All of them will shape me as a mother.
I want all women to know that thier voices matter.
For this reason I must give it my all to never silence hers.
I want all women to know that they are strong, and that sometimes our strongest when we are at our most vulnerable.
Because of this I must learn to be comfortable in both.
I want all women to know that their needs matter just as much as anyone else’s.
To make that clear, I will put myself first, even when it’s harder.
I want all women to believe that anything they dream is possible.
To show her this, I must dream, dream big, and get to work. I must never put my agenda on her dreams.
I want all women to believe that they deserve respect, without condition.
I must always demand respect for myself, and never disrespect her.
I want all women to know that healthy love is not martyrdom or resentful sacrifice.
For this I must own my choices, express my needs, and hold people to high standards.
I must help her find her own.
I want all women to know that there is no glory in “doing it all yourself”, and much love in community and connection.
I will have to ask for help, when the opportunity arises, even if it makes me uncomfortable.
I must never make her feel bad for asking for mine.
I want all women to know that their worth will never be measured by a number. Not a scale, a tape measure, or a bank account.
I will help her value what is real, by measuring my success on my own personal yardstick, without fear of judgment.
I will accept her own definition as well.
I want all women to know that the right women will uplift and empower each other.
I will never let her speak poorly of other women, and she’ll never hear gossip from me.
I want all women to know that they are capable and intelligent. They don’t need saving.
I will let her figure out hard things, and I will not give up when I am facing my own obstacles.
I will not save her, even when it breaks my heart to watch her struggle.
There are so many ways I want to change the world, and so many things I want women to know.
I’m starting with this one.
