Simple Healthy Turkey Burger

November 26, 20121 min read

This turkey burger is a simple, lean alternative to a traditional beef burger. Made with white meat turkey and served on a whole wheat bun, it’s a balanced, satisfying meal that’s easy to prepare on the stovetop or an electric grill.

Paired with grilled onions and a touch of BBQ sauce, it delivers plenty of flavor without being heavy.

Ingredients

  • 1 (4 oz) white meat turkey burger patty

  • 2 slices onion

  • 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce

  • 1 whole wheat hamburger bun

  • 1 lettuce leaf (optional)

  • 1 tomato slice (optional)

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

  1. Lightly coat both sides of the turkey patty with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Grill the patty on a stovetop griddle or electric grill until fully cooked, turning as needed. Always cook poultry until there is no pink remaining.

  3. While the patty cooks, lightly spray the onion slices with cooking spray and grill until they reach your desired tenderness.

  4. When cooked, spread BBQ sauce on the bun.

  5. Place the turkey patty and grilled onions on the bun. Add lettuce and tomato if using.

  6. Serve warm, optionally with baked sweet potato fries.
